About the event
America has faced numerous social, political, and moral issues. Through the lens of music, GFBLA is choosing to shine a light on the following important causes: AAPI hate, civil rights and equality for all men and women, the COVID-19 pandemic, gender equality, gun violence, plastic pollution, political strife, special needs students, and survivors of child abuse. The repertoire for this program was inspired by these causes and we would like to remember and celebrate those who have been afflicted with any injustices. If our audience is so inclined, we have provided a list of suggested nonprofit organizations where you can choose to donate or volunteer in support of the various causes.
We invite the audience to join us for a Pre-Talk Panel Discussion from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm where we will learn and discuss the music that inspired the important causes.
This concert is also a special occasion as we will be honoring Justin Raines’ retirement from GFBLA as Artistic Director. Justin has served as Artistic Director for the last ten years and has helped GFBLA grow and expand its presence within the community. To honor Justin’s legacy with GFBLA, we are creating an endowment to recognize his tenure with GFBLA and sustain the band for years to come.
This concert is led by GFBLA’s Artistic Directors, Justin Raines and Joseph Vranas, and will feature:
- Ligia Chaves-Rasas, conductor
- Elena Armijo, vocalist
- Angela Kong, violinist
