Our Ensembles
Concert Band
Members attend our weekly Tuesday night rehearsals and perform in our seasonal concerts. We play a mixture of classical compositions, modern pieces, pop tunes, and more across a variety of difficulty levels.
​Marching Band
Our marching band spreads music and joy at Pride parades, community events, and other performances throughout the Los Angeles region. Members rehearse on weekends leading up to our events. Whether you play an instrument, toss a flag, twirl a baton, or want to volunteer, there's a place for everyone!
Jazz Band
Come get groovy with us! Our jazz band is back and swinging away! Members rehearse one or two times a month on Tuesday nights to prepare for gigs around town.

What is the Gay Freedom Band of Los Angeles?
GFBLA promotes acceptance and celebrates diversity by bringing together musicians from across Southern California for performance and educational opportunities that embrace equality, inclusion, and the love of music.
As a member, you'll join a group with a rich past and an exciting future, a heritage of quality and pride. Since its inception in October of 1978, the ensemble has performed for over a million people in parades, concerts, local and national television. The band is consistently increasing performance opportunities in Southern California and beyond, while providing a close-knit community environment to its members.
Who can become a member?
We welcome adult members of all musical abilities and identities! Whether you're a professional musician or haven't played since high school, there's a place for you in our band. We are a diverse and welcoming community.

How does membership work?
Get started by coming to one of our rehearsals! New members are welcome to try the band for one month before paying dues. (There are no auditions.) Please contact us to register for your first rehearsal.

What are the membership dues?
After your first month, annual membership dues are:

$120 for Concert Band

$50 for Jazz Band

$150 for both Concert and Jazz Bands

No dues for Marching Band
Monthly payment options are available and there are scholarships for those facing financial hardships. GFBLA is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit community organization.

What do I need to bring?
For your first rehearsal, please bring your instrument and your musical spirit. If you don't have an instrument, please contact us to see if we can provide you with one!
